bellbottom
ByAbout this time last month I was sitting in my usual café (Donut Company aka The Pantry at the Rivers end of the mall) when something caught my eye. It was a little A5 size guide printed on recycled paper with a catchy title “bellbottom” in a great font and basically a very super-cool looking little magazine.
Magazine is the wrong word, these days all the gloss, colours, logos, slogans, catchy phrases and big pictures just washes over me. We see it too much in the wads of catalogues we get in our letterboxes and the shiny magazines that stare at us from newsagents and supermarket stands. They are everywhere and I have to say, I don’t take much notice when I see a pile of them lying around.
Which is why the November edition of bellbottom caught my eye. It is a really arty, LOVE the recycled paper, the clever layout and all the groovy little piccies.
So if you haven’t seen it yet, bellbottom is the mid-north coast community arts & culture guide. I actually had the pleasure of meeting Maggie Quirk, the thinker, writer and creator last week when she was delivering the December edition to various places around town. The reason she started bellbottom was because there was nothing like it on the Coffs Coast, she waited for something to come out and it never did, so she decided to take matters into her own hands.
And I am so glad she did, inside are little articles, reviews, a double-page event guide, a markets guide and great ads that I actually look at because they are interesting!
You can grab a copy of Bellbottom in all sorts of places: it is totally free and I am telling you, go hunting for it:
