Mummy and Son time

I came to the strange realisation a week or so ago that I miss my 5 year old. He started school this year and we really don’t get to spend any ‘quality time’ alone together anymore. Of course I see him every day but it is a rush every morning to get him fed, dressed and organised for school. And when I pick him up we do some errands and come home to get ready for the dinner routine.

So I handed 2 year old son over to his Dad (for some one-on-one Daddy-youngest son bonding time) and had Saturday night and Sunday just Mummy & Son time.

I had one of the best weekends I’ve had in ages. And I am sure Mason did too. We had a list of all the things Mason wanted to do. Saturday we went to the video store and rented ‘How to Tame a Dragon’ (a really great film if you haven’t come across it yet, I actually really enjoyed it!) went out to dinner together and came home and watched the movie.

Sunday he really wanted to go through the car wash (yes strange I know, but he loves it, and who was I to argue – my car was filthy!) and we wondered around the Emerald Beach Fair. I helped him make sand art, we ate ice creams and watched the circus shows. It was such a lovely day out in the sun and I really enjoyed his company.

Then we came home and wrote and (over) decorated a card for his friend who recently moved to Canberra and watched David Beckham on You Tube (my son is a budding soccer star in the making!)

This is something I will definitely be doing regularly. Just a short amount of time and I feel close to him again, not just rushing around doing the day-to-day stuff of life. I know it made him feel special too and he is already hassling me for the next Mummy and Son time.

Do you ever get that feeling too, that you miss your kids even though you see them everyday?

Oh yes! Great idea. I always feel so rushed around, even on weekends and don’t feel like I spent any quality time with my kids either. What a great suggestion. Have to start planning something like this soon!

That is an awesome idea. Will definately be using that idea when my son is older. As it is only him and myself and i am busy with work and studying i worry that im not spending enough quality time with him. When he is a little older we will definately have a mum and son day. What a great idea!
